Sun Belt COVID Case Growth Slowdown

US

Florida COVID cases rose 1.1% in the past day (+5,409 to crack the 500k mark at 502,739), more or less in line with the previous two days' growth which in themselves represented a major slowdown from 3%+ for much of July. Even when taking into consideration the closure of testing laboratories amid a hurricane, the slowdown had begun being evident by late July.

Arizona cases rose by 1,698, or 0.9%, a little above the previous couple of days (to 182,283) but still showing signs of a significant slowdown.

Both states - and other trouble spots including California and Texas - are below the 1.0 reproduction number, suggesting that transmission is in decline.
