Swedish PM Andersson To Resign

SWEDEN

Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson has recognised the victory of the right coalition and announced her intention to resign as leader of the Swedish government.

  • Andersson said at a press conference: "Tomorrow I will request my resignation as Prime Minister."
  • Andersson: "It's important that Sweden gets a new government as soon as possible."
  • Dominik Rzepka at ZDF: "Andersson wants to remain leader of the Social Democrats and offers cooperation to the leader of the Conservatives. This means that if its formation of a government with the help of the far-right Sweden Democrats fails, it would be ready for a kind of "grand coalition"."
  • Andersson also made clear that the government remains in a perilous state, per Ewa Stenberg: "Sweden will get a government that is 1-2 seats from government crisis. If it is clear that Ulf Kristersson's government documents do not hold together, well, then my door is open."
