Swiss Hydro Stocks Decreased

Swiss hydropower reserves fell by 1.5 percentage points last week to 86.5% of capacity, indicating stocks reached their peak the week prior to that, BFE data showed.

  • Reserves retained a 3.6 points surplus to the five-year average, unchanged on the week, but widened the surplus to the long-term average – since 1997 – by 0.6 points on the week to 7.2 points.
  • Hydropower output in Switzerland declined last week. Output from reservoirs fell by 280.1MW on the week to 1.24GW. Output from pumped storage fell by 203.2MW on the week to 807MW. Nuclear production was mostly stable at 2.97GW, Entso-E data showed.
  • Weather forecasts suggest high precipitation for the remainder of the week in Sion – in the hydro-intensive canton of Valais – boosting inflows into reserves.
