STOCKS: The major Asia-Pacific indices struggled for clear direction in the wake
of the latest round of Sino-U.S. trade talks, with no final solution forthcoming
and another round of talks scheduled for mid-Feb. This, coupled with a soft
Chinese Caixin m'fing PMI print limited the space as traders eyed next week's
Lunar New Year holidays.
- Nikkei 225 +0.1%, Hang Seng -0.3%, CSI 300 +0.9%, ASX 200 +0.1%.
- U.S. equity index futures trade mixed at writing, with the NASDAQ
underperforming. There was talk that Apple stands ready to take action on Google
apps, which may have weighed on tech. Elsewhere, Amazon topped earnings exp.
after hours, although its Q1 guidance was a little disappointing.
- S&P500 unch., DJIA +27, NASDAQ 100 -28.00.
