UK: The Times has reported that "Theresa May's hardline Brexiteer critics will

maintain their determined opposition to her deal with the EU unless she rapidly

secures huge changes in Brussels. Sources in the European Research Group (ERG)

of Eurosceptic Conservative backbenchers said that tweaks to the controversial

Irish backstop would not be enough. The backstop, an insurance policy to avoid a

hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic if there were no new UK-EU

trade deal, is behind many Conservative MPs' objections to the deal. However, an

ERG source said that even if Mrs May could add a time limit to the backstop,

that concession would not fly."
