A tight start to the session with major pairs hugging narrow ranges, the greenback hovering near the top of yesterday's range.

  • Data from Japan showed GDP rose above estimates at 0.5%, bank lending including trusts rose 0.3%. LDP leadership race remains in the spotlight, albeit the latest headline flow surrounding the matter included little in the way of market moving updates.
  • It is a quiet economic docket in Asia with BoJ Rinban operations one of the few remaining events, markets will await the September Bank of Canada decision/statement later in the day. The BOC will likely try to avoid creating any political talking points less than two weeks ahead of the snap federal election on September 20.
  • The domestic UK highlight of the week will be the Treasury Select Committee hearing tomorrow with MPC Governor Bailey and members Broadbent, Ramsden and enreyro all due to testify.
  • Highlights in the U.S. will be July Jolts data and the Fed's Beige Bookbefore markets prepare for the EBC statement/press conference on Thursday.
