Tokyo Gov. To Ask For Extension Of COVID-19 Emergency: Nikkei

Nikkei reporting that the Governor of Tokyo is set to ask for an extension of the city's state of emergency restrictions beyond 7 March as new COVID-19 cases in the capital continue to mount.

  • Earlier in the day Kyodo reported that Gov. Yuriko Koike was 'wary' of lifting restrictions due to 'gaps' in COVID-19 data and hundreds of new cases in the city.
  • The Japanese gov't had previously planned to end all state of emergency provisions on March 7, but this may now prove difficult if the govt' of the capital city wants restrictions to remain in place.
