The UK trade deficit widened to stg10.8bn in Q4, reflecting a stg3.3bn 
widening in the goods deficit and a stg0.5bn narrowing in the trade in 
services surplus. This increase in the Q4 deficit was largely due to the 
fact that in December alone the deficit grew by stg1.2bn to stgstg4.8bn 
- the largest monthly deficit since September 2016. The sector looks to 
drag on fourth quarter GDP, to the tune of -0.7pp, that after exerting 
a neutral impact in Q3.
