Trans Mountain Pipeline Still Awaits Regulatory Approval

OIL

The long-delayed Trans Mountain Corp pipeline expansion plans to begin line fill in March or May depending on the diameter of pipe it uses and assuming no new problems it said in a filing Wednesday but it still awaits regulatory approval.

  • The Canada Energy Regulator denied a request for a pipe diameter change December 5 which Trans Mountain Corp appealed December 14 but still await a decision.
  • They have previously said a denial of the request could result in a two-year delay because of rock hardness they are trying to drill through.
  • The pipeline can enter service within one month of mechanical completion, which precedes line fill, Trans Mountain said in the filing.
  • Line fill is the final step before the pipeline begins service.
  • The project will nearly triple oil flows on the line to 890,000 bpd giving extra access for Canadian oil to flow to the US West Coast and Asia.
