The Trades Union Congress has announced that its annual meeting, postponed following the death of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, has been rearranged for 18-20 October.

  • The TUC is the national trade union centre of England and Wales. There has been a significant amount of industrial action taking place across the UK in recent months, with railways, the postal service, refuse disposal, cargo ports, further education colleges, and the justice system all hit by/set to be hit by strikes as workers demand higher pay settlements amid rising inflationary pressures.
  • The disruption risks a negative impact on the wider economy due to supply chain hold-ups and logistical difficulties.
  • As such, statements coming out of the TUC annual meeting likely to be more closely observed than is usually the case due to the potential economic impact of further strikes.
