Turkstream Flows to Europe Drop in November

NATURAL GAS

Russian gas flows to Europe in November fell by 5% from October to 1.86 Bcm according to S&P Global.

  • Russian pipeline exports are only entering Europe via Ukraine or through TurkStream after the halt to supplies though Nord Stream, Yamal-Europe and reduction to flows via Ukraine.
  • The November total of 1.86 Bcm compares with 10.09 Bcm in November last year. Deliveries via TurkStream into southeast Europe fell to just 0.84 Bcm (28mcm/d) compared to more than 40mcm/d at times this summer.
  • TurkStream supplies have picked up in December back to 44mcm/d according to S&P Global data.
  • Gas via TurkStream mainly flows to Serbia and Hungary, but also delivers to Romania, Greece, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bulgaria supplies ended in April after they refused to comply with the terms of Gazprom's new ruble-based payment mechanism.
  • Russia and Turkey are aiming to create a new gas hub with an expansion of the 31.5 Bcm/year TurkStream system.
