Two Atlantic Refiners Set for Late Year Turnarounds

REFINING

Two Atlantic Coast refineries are planning turnarounds that will knock 500,000 bpd of processing capacity from mid-September into November according to Argus reports.

  • Irving Oil is planning a turnaround at its 320,000 bpd Saint John, New Brunswick, refinery that is expected to last seven weeks starting 17 September.
  • Delta Airlines' 190,000 bpd Trainer, Pennsylvania, refinery will undergo maintenance at the same time. Its operator, Monroe will fully honor contract supply but spot supply will be limited.
  • Irving has not communicated an allocation plan to fuel buyers according to Argus sources.
  • Argus reports that the impact may be limited because it is likely to only impact spot markets though poses upside risks if any unplanned Atlantic refiner maintenance develops during the period.
