U.S. Braces for Record July 4th Travel

TSA and AAA are forecasting record levels of travel in the U.S. for this week’s July 4 holiday.

  • TSA expects to screen more than 32 million travellers at US airports from June 27 through July 8 – a 5.4% increase y/y.
  • It forecasts that July 4 holiday will serve as the summer flying demand peak in the U.S.
  • Last week, a record-breaking 2.99 million passengers went through U.S. airports in a single day TSA said.
  • AAA expects 70.9 million Americans to travel 50 miles (80 kilometers) or more from home and more than 85% will be going by road travel.
  • “We anticipate this July 4th week will be the busiest ever with an additional 5.7 million people traveling compared to 2019,” the group said.
  • At the pump, U.S. drivers can expect slightly lower gas prices than last year with a gallon costing an average of $3.50. In 2023, gas cost $3.53 per gallon and in 2022, it cost nearly $5.
