CHINA: U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he saw "certain movement"
from North Korea in ending its missile and nuclear testing, adding that Chinese
President Xi Jinping had been "very helpful" to the United States on the issue.
Trump, speaking at a press conference alongside President Moon Jae-in of South
Korea during his visit there, called on "every responsible nation," including
China and Russia, to help resolve the nuclear standoff. "It's time to act with
urgency and great determination," he said. Although he said the U.S. and its
allies were "making progress" with North Korea on the issue, he did not reveal
any specific agreements that had been made. He also called on North Korea to "do
the right thing" and come to the bargaining table, but added that if it didn't,
and it continued with its nuclear and missile tests, the United States "stands
prepared to defend itself and its allies." Moon also urged North Korea to return
to negotiations, offering the North a "better future" if it did. Trump lands in
Beijing on Wednesday, where he is expected to discuss the North Korea issue
further with Xi, as well as engage in trade talks.
