UK Davis: Concrete Progress On Many Brexit Issues, Not On Sett

MNI (London)
LONDON (MNI) - The UK and the European Union have made "concrete progress"
on a number of issues in recent talks, but stand apart on many others, a senior
Government minister said Tuesday.
Updating the House of Commons on talks over the summer period, David Davis,
Secretary of State for Exiting the EU, said there were still great differences
over issues such as the financial settlement.
Davis said there was an acceptance that both the UK and the EU will have
financial obligations to each other after Brexit, but at present, both sides had
a very different legal stance on the settlement position.
He also noted that the UK government had a duty on behalf of UK taxpayers
to question any EU financial claims "line by line."
Again trying to show that the UK was not the blocking partner on
negotiations, Davis repeated a recent comment from Prime Minister Theresa May,
saying the UK was "substantially more imaginative and pragmatic" in talks than
the EU.
