UK: Week Ahead: Labour market and GDP data with Breeden due to speak

  • The highlight for UK markets this week will be the release of labour market data on Tuesday, although the week also sees the release of GDP data on Wednesday and the BOE’s Inflation Attitudes survey on Friday. We will preview the labour market data in our document this afternoon.
  • The week ahead only has one MPC speaker on the agenda: Sarah Breden is due to deliver remarks at the Wharton-IMF Transatlantic Dialogue in Washington on Thursday. However (possibly due to the blackout period ahead of the MPC meeting) her comments will be published on Tuesday at midday BST. She was amongst the members of the MPC who voted for an August rate cut so her comments will be closely watched ahead of next week’s policy decision. Most of her recent comments have been surrounding financial stability (not surprising as that is her main mandate as Deputy Governor); her last decisive comments on monetary policy were in May when she said that she was more focused on services inflation than wage growth.
