Ultracracker Unit Upset at Galveston Bay Refinery

An ultracracker unit at Marathon Petroleum’s 593kb/d Galveston Bay refinery in Texas had an upset on Mar. 12 according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

  • The upset caused intermittent flaring from 8:24am to 10:54am local time.
  • The ultracracker unit was stabilized after a hydrogen compressor tripped.
  • The refinery completed a planned multiunit maintenance involving nine units on 6 March, sources told Reuters.
