UN Trade Chief Could Visit Moscow To Talk Grain Deal-Russian State Media

Russian state-run media reporting comments from UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Sec-Gen Rebeca Grynspan stating that "We remain committed to making every effort to extend Black Sea Grain Deal". Media reports suggest that Grynspan may visit Moscow prior to the 17 July deadline for the extension of the grain deal.

  • A short time ago, comments from the Kremlin hit wires suggesting that no final decision had been made on the grain deal. General commentary from Russia has been negative on its extension, but should be noted that it was also downbeat before the previous extension.
  • The deal remains crucial for ensuring supply of cheap Ukrainian and Russian grain to the MENA regions. A halt to exports from the Black Sea could see significant food price inflation, and even shortages risking political unrest.
