Stocks are on the back foot in mid-morning European trading, with no clear headline catalyst - looks for the moment to be position unwinding and possible profit-taking.

  • Asian stocks closed mixed, with Japan's NIKKEI up 219.95 pts or +0.91% at 24325.23 and the TOPIX up 8.55 pts or +0.52% at 1658.49. China's SHANGHAI closed down 7.974 pts or -0.24% at 3312.159 and the HANG SENG ended 17.05 pts higher or +0.07% at 25712.97.
  • European equities are weaker, with the German Dax down 142.85 pts or -1.14% at 12533.26, FTSE 100 down 44.63 pts or -0.76% at 5912.05, CAC 40 down 65.54 pts or -1.32% at 4981.54 and Euro Stoxx 50 down 35.55 pts or -1.11% at 3206.65.
  • U.S. futures are lower too, with the Dow Jones mini down 257 pts or -0.91% at 28044, S&P 500 mini down 38.75 pts or -1.11% at 3466.25, NASDAQ mini down 173.5 pts or -1.44% at 11903.5.
