  • Earlier in the day Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused the US of supporting PKK militants who kidnapped and killed 13 Turks in northern Iraq. Called the statement from Washington, D.C. condemning the killings 'a joke'.
  • Given US's pivot towards a more conventional foreign policy and emphasis on western values, strongman leaders such as Erdogan likely to develop a more standoffish relationship with the US under President Biden than was the case under President Trump.
