US: Biden Live ABC Interview Underway Shortly

US

US President Joe Biden is shortly due to sit for his first live network television interview since early August, before the first debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump. LIVESTREAM (ABC)

  • The interview comes after Biden used his final address at the United Nations General Assembly yesterday to urge world leaders to remain optimistic despite ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
  • Biden touted success in bolstering NATO, working with China to curb the flow of synthetic narcotics, and creating new security partnerships but, his foreign policy legacy is likely to be overshadowed by a failure to deter or resolve major conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
  • In a reference to the threat of more isolationism under a potential second Trump administration, Biden said: “There will always be forces that pull our countries apart and the world apart: aggression, extremism, chaos, and cynicism, a desire to retreat from the world and go it alone. Our task, our test is to make sure that the forces holding us together are stronger than those that are pulling us apart…”
  • On a potential ceasefire deal in Gaza, Biden said: “I put forward with Qatar and Egypt a ceasefire and hostage deal. It’s been endorsed by the U.N. Security Council. Now is the time for the parties to finalize its terms, bring the hostages home, secure security for Israel, and Gaza free of Hamas’ grip, ease the suffering in Gaza, and end this war.”
