US DATA: Mixed Degrees Of Moderation For Regional Fed CPI Measures

  • Cleveland Fed median CPI: 0.26% M/M in Aug after 0.31% in Jul and 0.19% in Jun. That 0.19 was the softest monthly increase since Jan 2021.
  • Cleveland Fed 16% trimmed mean CPI: 0.19% M/M after 0.20% in Jul and 0.17 in Jun.
  • Atlanta Fed sticky core CPI ex shelter was more notable in its softness: 0.11% M/M after 0.14% in Jul, 0.13% in Jun and a particularly weak -0.07% in May.
  • In Y/Y terms, the Cleveland Fed median reversed last month’s tick higher as it nudged down to 4.16% whilst the trimmed mean dipped a tenth to 3.2% for a new recent low since Aug 2021.
  • After a recent plateauing, the Atl Fed’s sticky core ex shelter eased from 3.06% to 2.89% although that’s only its lowest since February.
