US LNG Export License Pause Could Last Months: US Energy Official

  • Japan’s trade minister and importer Jera Co. have expressed concerns about energy security following the US decision in pause new export licenses.
  • On a trip to Tokyo Crabtree said the US is “100% focused” on energy security in Japan. “They understand that in the near to medium term, we are going to be bringing substantially additional natural gas to market,” Crabtree said.
  • US Secretary of State Amos Hochstein said last month that the US needs to take a pause to think about whether demand will be there for higher exports beyond doubled capacity as well as understanding the environmental and economic implications of the projects. He suggested the pause on LNG permits could last between 10 and 14 months until after the US election.
