US LNG Tanker Diverted from Europe to Asia on Arb Opportunity: Platts

LNG tanker Diamond Gas Crystal is now heading towards Asia after being diverted from its original route to Europe, Platts said.

  • The tanker loaded Aug. 4 with 71k mt of LNG at Cameron, Louisiana. Its destination was the Gate Terminal in the Netherlands.
  • However, it stopped its engines and turned eastward in the Atlantic on Aug. 19, likely to take the Cape route to Asia.
  • The diversion is likely the result of a stronger arbitrage pulls from Asia, with a $1.40/MMBtu spread between the basins, Platts said.
