US Natural Gas Stockpiles Expected to Rise by 42bcf: BNEF

EIA US natural gas inventories are expected to rise by 42bcf for the week ending 1 September according to BNEF.

  • BNEF’s facility samples-based model predicts an injection of 42Bcf, while the weather-based supply and demand model predicts an injection of 45Bcf.
  • Last week EIA reported a net injection of 32bcf for the week ending 25 August, just below the forecast of 31bcf.
  • Total storage is now at 3,115bcf, up by 249bcf from the seasonal average of 2,866bcf.
  • Hot weather in California supported gas demand for cooling throughout August.
  • Temperatures in California reached their highest point halfway through August. Cooling degree days (CDD) stayed above 24 between August 14 and 17, during which California’s wind fleet saw a five-year low in generation. On 16 August gas generation reached its 2023 peak of 19.9GWh for the day.
