US-Russia: Progress Noted On Cybersecurity, But Talks With Nuland Yet to Yield Results

  • Ambassador Antonov says Russia is responding to all US concerns in the cybersecurity space and the two countries have achieved practical results in combatting cybercrime. Says both sides have agreed to launch a dialogue on cybersecurity and have held four rounds of expert consultations.
    • Also notes that positive signs have emerged between presidents with constructive dialogue and businesslike relations coming from the meetings.
    • Says this has to do with strategic stability talks "which serve as a barometer for the general condition of US-Russia ties"
  • Ryabkov says Russia & US will hold separate consultations on visas, diplomatic missions following meetings with undersecretary Nuland which ended with limited progress.
    • Ryabkov also called on the US to lift all restrictions from foreign missions in a reciprocal move as the current anti-Russian stance continues to degrade relations.
    • In a separate comment, PM Mishustin also said Russian authorities believe creating favourable conditions for improving Russia-US cooperation in trade, economy and investments is crucial ahead of further talks with Nuland & Dmitry Kozak today.
  • Ministry of Finance predicts a decrease in the share of oil and gas revenues in the structure of the federal budget and GDP. Says the share will be reduced by almost a third by 2036 and fall below 25% of the total profit of the Treasury in line with budget sustainability measures and emission reduction targets
