US STOCKS: Equities Roundup: Interactive Media, Chip Stocks Outperforming

- Stocks are trading mixed at midday, the DJIA weaker but off lows while the S&P Eminis and Nasdaq outperform pull higher after this morning's dip in jobs data and a rise in consumer confidence buoyed sentiment.
- Currently, the DJIA trades down 93.11 points (-0.22%) at 42299.5, S&P E-Minis up 3.5 points (0.06%) at 5865.75, Nasdaq up 79.9 points (0.4%) at 18649.97.
- Communication Services and Information Technology outperformed in the first half, interactive media and entertainment shares supported the Communication sector: News Corp +2.8%, Take-Two Interactive +1.70%, Meta +1.66% while Google gained 1.17%. Semiconductor stocks buoyed the IT sector for the second day running: Monolithic Power +3.09%, ON Semiconductor and Advance Micro Devices both +2.45% while Lam Research gained 2.16%.
- Conversely, Utilities and Energy sector shares weighed on broader markets in the first half, electricity and multi-energy providers weighing on the former: NexEra Energy -3.34%, AES Corp -2.93%, Eversource Energy -2.75%. Meanwhile, oil and gas shares weighed on the Energy sector: Phillips 66 -2.82%, Marathon Petroleum and Valero -2.22%, while Apa trades -1.25%.
- Corporate earnings expected after the close include: Stryker Corp, Chipotle, Visa, First Solar, Electronic Arts, Alphabet and Advanced Micro Devices.
