USDCAD Pulls Back From Fresh YTD Highs Ahead Of CAD CPI

  • USDCAD at 1.3785 has tilted a little lower after setting fresh YTD highs of 1.3814 overnight, with the dip coming from pre cash open gains for equity futures.
  • The bull cycle has opened 1.3855 (Nov 10, 2023) after which lies a key 1.3899 (Nov 1, 2023 high).
  • However, the pair flashes overbought on a 14-day RSI basis – it was last overbought for any meaningful duration in Aug’23 and before that Mar’23.
  • Today’s heaviest option expiry sees $758mn at 1.3700, with a more notable $1.29bn at 1.3800 tomorrow.
  • Housing starts provide a warm-up at 0815ET before the main data with CAD at 0830ET. There is however Macklem’s discussion with Powell (1315ET) and the Budget (from 1600ET) still to come.
