USGC-Europe Crude Flows in Jan to Stay Above 2m b/d

Observed crude oil shipments into Europe from the USGC are set to remain at around 2m b/d for a second successive month, according to Bloomberg citing tanker tracking data.

  • 35 tankers are carrying around 30.9m bbl has arrived so far in Europe from the Gulf Coast, with a further 36 tankers carrying 34.2m bbl forecast to arrive in Jan.
  • This puts the total forecasted volume in Europe in Jan at 65.1m bbl, or 2.1m b/d, the highest since 2016 when the US lifted its crude export ban.
  • European refineries have been boosting US crude purchases to replace Russian crude.
