Utility Rates for FSRUs in Europe Reach Record Low: Platts

The percentage of total European regasification capacity from FSRU units reached a record of 25.9% in July, but utilisation rates hit a record low, Platts said.

  • Total regasification capacity reached 20.38m mtpa in July – 14.58 mtpa from terminals and 5.1m mtpa from FSRUs.
  • Analysts expect a further 19 bcm/y of FSRU regas capacity this year from upcoming the Mukran and Alexandroupolis terminals.
  • However, regasification utilisation rates in Europe started to decline in 2024 as capacity outpaces demand, with rates at a low of 31% in July.
  • Utilisation at Germany’s two commercially operating FSRUs in Wilhelmshaven and Brunsbüttel averaged just 17% in July.
