Vaccine On The Mind

EQUITIES

{ZZ} EQUITIES: The majority of the major regional Asia-Pac indices moved higher at their respective re-opens, before fading, with a focus on the COVID-19 vaccine developments and subsequent market reaction witnessed during NY hours on Monday.

  • Still, the lack of clarity surrounding the U.S. Presidential transition and ongoing uncertainty re: U.S. fiscal stimulus and current COVID-19 issues were touted as cautionary matters during the session, after the late pullback from best levels on Wall St, with e-minis chopping around before settling a little lower vs. settlement. This came after the NASDAQ 100 underperformed, trading lower on Monday, as the stay-at-home COVID names struggled on the vaccine news.
  • Chinese equities are little changed on the day. A quick reminder that Monday saw the largest round of northbound net buying flow via the HK-China stock connect schemes since November 2019, with a net CNY19.7bn of Chinese equities bought via the links.
  • Nikkei 225 +0.4%, Hang Seng +0.7%, CSI 300 unch., ASX 200 +0.6%.
  • S&P 500 futures -28, DJIA futures -226, NASDAQ 100 futures -99.
