Warming Temperatures in China to Ease LNG Pressure

A week of cold weather in northern China is expended to end with temperatures rising by 4 to 8 degrees Celsius on Friday easing pressure on heating fuel demand. Cold weather in both Europe and Asia would increase the already tight competition for global LNG supplies.

  • Domestic LNG prices rose 1.9% from Monday to Thursday, according to Shanghai Petroleum & Gas Exchange data.
  • “Heating demand is rising, but we don’t see the falling temperature as a game changer to lift up China’s LNG demand and imports,” said Sun Xuelian, a gas analyst with consultancy JLC.
