EQUITIES: We have discussed Thursday's moves in U.S. equities in more detail
elsewhere, but, in short, the post-NFP rally faded as COVID-19 worry, slight
knockbacks on the vaccine front and some of the details of the NFP report/less
+ve weekly jobless claims all came to the fore at different points of the U.S.
session.
- That left the major Wall St. indices shy of best levels come the bell, with a
lack of appetite to hold long risk asset exposure over the elongated U.S.
holiday weekend seemingly evident as well (given familiar sources of risk).
- Asia-Pac equity indices have edged higher, but have been capped by modest
downticks for e-minis, as well as the aforementioned familiar sources of risk
i.e. geopolitical tension and COVID-19 matters.
- Volume is generally thin, in what has been a lacklustre end to the week in the
region.
- Nikkei 225 +0.4%, Hang Seng +0.5%, CSI 300 +0.7%, ASX 200 unch.
- S&P 500 futures -4, DJIA futures -28, NASDAQ 100 futures -4.
