White House Aiming For Bump In Biden Approval At NATO Summit

US

President Biden’s approval rating remains in the doldrums despite a marginal recovery following a cratering of approval during the debt ceiling showdown. According to RealClearPolitics, Biden’s approval rating currently sits at 42.8%.

  • The White House will be eying the NATO summit which kicks off in Lithuania tomorrow - a globally significant event where Biden will be operating within his foreign policy comfort zone - to provide the president with a polling boost.
  • According to the White House, Biden will give a “major speech” on Wednesday, “highlighting how the United States, alongside our allies and partners, is supporting Ukraine, defending democratic values, and taking action to address global challenges.”
  • A strong performance in foreign policy may provide the White House some reliable talking points after a challenging month domestically which has included a SCOTUS decision to block student loan relief, a federal judge decision to restrict Biden administration interaction with social media firms, a sceptical public response to the White House "Bidenomics" drive, and lingering questions on President Biden's age ahead of the 2024 election.
