Woodside’s NWS Train 2 Likely Shut in 2024

Woodside Energy has reiterated that the 2.5m mtpa train two at its 16.9m mtpa North West Shelf LNG is likely to shut in 2024 due to falling production, according to Argus.

  • The closure comes three years after Woodside first considered retiring the train.
  • The retirement will also coincide with the first gas from Beach Energy’s Waitsia stage 2 project in Australia which could produce around 1.5m mtpa of LNG which would be processed at NWS.
  • However, Waitsia is likely to be the last gas project to receive export permission in Western Australia, Argus said.
