FOREX: WTI has best session in over a month, helping underpin CAD into the close
-Simmering tensions in the Persian Gulf helped boost oil prices Thursday as the
US formally declared that state actors were behind the attack on two oil tankers
near the Strait of Hormuz. The upside in oil supported CAD throughout the day,
preventing USD/CAD from re-challenging the 100-dma to the upside at C$1.3349.
-Elsewhere, market moves were muted. A day light on either key data or central
bank speakers saw markets continue to ponder the upcoming FOMC rate decision and
the ramifications on the USD. EUR/USD 1w implied vols, which now capture the Fed
decision next week, were bumped higher to reflect this.
-AUD held its losses throughout the session following the poor jobs release
Thursday, with Herald Sun RBA watcher Terry McCrann pressuring further as he
suggested another RBA rate cut is on the way, but the timing is the uncertainty.
-Attention turns to US retail sales and industrial production for May as well as
the prelim Uni. of Michigan release for June. Bank of England governor Carney is
scheduled to speak, as well as the Bank of Russia governor following their rate
decision.
