Zamrazilova Says CNB Would "Ideally" Loosen Policy At Each Meeting But Flexibility Remains

CZECHIA
  • CNB Deputy Governor Eva Zamrazilova reiterated that the pace of monetary easing will depend on how inflation develops. The official noted that "ideally, we will loosen monetary policy at each meeting, as the risks of a return to the inflation target fade" and pointed to the January CPI reading as a key signal for Czech policymakers. She added that the CNB already has some signals on January inflation, even as official data will be published a week after the next rate review. Zamrazilova signalled a degree of flexibility around the pace of monetary easing, noting that the CNB could pause or accelerate it, depending on how inflation develops. However, she expects policy to remain restrictive for the time being.
  • Lidove Noviny reported that the ruling coalition expects to win a case in the Constitutional Court, which has been asked to review pension reforms intended to reduce budget deficits.
  • Data from the CZSO showed that Czech ex-auto retail sales rose 0.9% Y/Y in November after a revised 1.6% contraction in October. Bloomberg consensus was looking for another 1.6% decline.
  • Czechia's current account data will be released at 09:00GMT/10:00CET.
