Labor Holds Its Lead Over The Opposition

AUSTRALIA

The Australian’s Newspoll shows that the incumbent Labor government holds its lead of 55:45 on a two-party preferred basis over the Coalition, despite both major parties losing some support over the summer recess.

  • Both the ALP and Coalition lost a point to 38% and 34% of the primary vote respectively. This seems to have flowed to independents and minor parties. The Greens were stable on 11%.
  • PM Albanese’s net approval rating deteriorated to +24% from +33% in December but still well ahead of opposition leader Dutton’s -10%.
  • The next election is due by May 2025.
