MNI BRIEF: Inflation Expectations Unchanged In June - ECB

MNI (LONDON) - Consumer inflation expectations across the eurozone were unchanged in June, although perceptions of current price rises fell sharply, an ECB survey showed on Friday.

Consumers' perceived inflation over the previous 12 months declined to 4.5%, from 4.9% in May. Expectations for inflation over the next 12 months were unchanged at 2.8%, after having fallen in May to their lowest level since September 2021. Consumer expectations for inflation three years ahead were also unchanged, at 2.3%, leaving both one-year and three-year expectations below the perceived past inflation rate.

According to Eurostat, inflation across the single currency block stood at 2.5% in July, with the next flash update due on July 31. ECB policymakers continue to eye price levels, as they focus on hitting their 2% target sustainably by the end of 2025.
