CABLE: ###POV. An article in the Times, which says forty MPs have agreed to sign
a letter of no confidence in Theresa May, just eight short of the number
required to force a leadership challenge, has seen the pound get off to a weak
start for the new trading week, in what potentially could be a volatile week
ahead. UK parliament reconvenes this week following a short recess with Prime
Minister's question time likely to be a lively affair. Brexit news is never too
far from everyone's thoughts. Over the weekend EU's chief negotiator told a
French newspaper that he is planning for the possible collapse of Brexit
negotiations with the UK. On the macro front, UK inflation data is out on
Tuesday, the labour report on Wednesday and retail sales on Thursday. We will
also get to hear from some members of the MPC, with speeches from Carney,
Broadbent and Cunliffe. As for Cable, trading over the last 5 or so weeks has
been confined to a relatively narrow $1.3027 to $1.3338 range, a break either
side is likely to prove directional.
