  • On Monday, congress preliminarily approved a bill that would put an end to a confidence vote process whenever the executive names a new cabinet of ministers.
    • Confidence votes have been a recurrent source of political tension in Peru in recent years because the constitution allows the President to dissolve Congress if it receives two no-confidence votes.
    • The bill would modify Peru’s constitution. But for the change to be confirmed, it now needs to go to a referendum. (BBG)
