AAA Expects Record Flight Travel During Christmas/New Year Holiday

A record number of 7.5mn people are expected to fly during 23 December and 1 January 2024, marking the busiest year-end flight travel season since at least 2000, AAA said.

  • The previous high was in 2019 with 7.3mn people flying during the period, AAA said.
  • The trend would be an extension of a busy Thanksgiving travel period during which the daily number of passengers screened by US airport security hit a record 2.907mn.
  • Road travel is also expected to rise to almost 104mn drivers during the period. Overall travelers are seen at 115mn, the second highest ever, AAA said.
