AMERICAS OIL: Alberta Oil Output Hits Record as Trans Mountain Boosts Exports

AMERICAS OIL

Alberta Oil Output Hits Record as Trans Mountain Boosts Exports: Bloomberg

  • Alberta’s oil output increased to a record in December as the expanded Trans Mountain pipeline allows for increased exports from oil sands producers.
  • Output rose to 4.26mb/d, up more than 58kb/d from November and the highest in Alberta Energy Regulator data going back to 2010. Oil sands output rose 65kb/d to 3.6mb/d, also a record, driven by output from steam-assisted wells.
  • Canada is the world’s fourth-largest oil producer, behind the US, Saudi Arabia and Russia, and is the biggest foreign supplier of crude to the US. Oil producers have increased production since the Trans Mountain added almost 600kb/d in new daily shipping capacity.
  • Alberta’s conventional light oil production also rose to a record of about 338kb/d last month.
  • The province’s average production for the year increased more than 162kb/d to just under 4mb/d.
