UK: All eyes today on the Supreme Court, where at 1030BST the hearing on whether
the PM broke the law in proroguing parliament begins.
- Scottish Court of Session ruled last week that the prorogation of parliament
was unlawful, while prior to this the English High Court ruled that the gov't
was in its rights to suspend parliament.
- The Supreme Court decision will in effect rule on which of these verdicts was
the right call.
- Case is set to last for three days, although supreme court justices have said
they will seek to deliver verdict as quickly as possible due to impact of the
ruling on UK's political situation.
- If ruling goes against gov't they may have to ask Queen to bring forward end
or prorogation immediately. If it rules in favour of gov't, parliament remains
prorogued.
