Anti-Inflation Shield to be Extended

  • Wires confirmed this morning that NBP head Glapinski will hold a press conference on Friday at 1400BST after Thursday’s rate decision at which the bank are expected to raise rates by 75bps to 6.00%.
  • Rzeczpospolita reports that PiS will likely focus on recent successes in campaigning out to next year’s general elections, with policy proposals likely thin on the ground until Spring next year, according to party insiders.
  • The government are to extend their ‘anti-inflation shield’ that’s currently due to expire in July, according to the finance minister, with analysis underway for an extension. The programme currently consists of measures on the prices of fuel, basic foodstuffs, natural gas, system heat, fertilisers as well as a reduced VAT rate on electricity.
  • Finance Minister Rzeczkowska added that the post-pandemic spending package is not currently factored into GDP forecasts for 3.8% this year, meaning GDP should be boosted due to renewed investment across this year and the next. On taxation, Rzeczkowska added that no new sectoral taxes are currently being considered.
