- Nonfarm payrolls are expected to rise by 190,000 in April based on both the
Bloomberg consensus MNI survey of analysts after a 196,000 gain in March.
- Private payrolls are forecast to rise by 185,000 by both BBG and MNI
- There is an upside risk to the forecasts, as analysts have a tendency to miss
to the low side, ADP was very strong, and there is a positive correlation
between lower initial jobless claims and higher payrolls.
- The unemployment is expected to hold steady at 3.8%, while hourly earnings are
forecast to rise by 0.3%, which should lift the year/year rate to 3.3%. The
workweek is expected to hold steady at 34.5 hours.
