US DATA
US DATA: April Housing Starts Preview - 08:30 EDT/13:30 BST
---------------------------------------------------------------
- April housing starts are expected to rebound to a 1.209m SAAR based on the
Bloomberg consensus and to a 1.200m SAAR based on an MNI survey of analysts.
This follows a small dip to 1.139m in March.
- The pace of building permits is expected to tick up to 1.290m SAAR by BBG and
to slip to 1.280m by MNI. This follows a small decline to 1.288m SAAR in the
previous month.
- Starts and permits were both down substantially from their year-ago levels
through March, suggesting caution on the part of builders in light of economic
uncertainty. A rise in the May NAHB index, released on Wednesday, is a promising
sign for a rebound in building in the next few months.
