Argentina Mulls Earlier Primary Fiscal Balance for IMF Deal (Bloomberg)

  • Argentina’s government is said to be considering agreeing to achieve a primary fiscal balance in 2026 with the IMF, earlier than it had said previously negotiations, according to people familiar with the matter.
  • IMF staff want the country to reach primary fiscal balance by 2025, said one of the people, who asked not to be named because negotiations are private.
  • For reference, Economy Minister Martin Guzman said earlier in Jan. that he wanted the deal to include a primary fiscal balance by 2027
    • Both the Economy Ministry and IMF spokespeople declined to comment.
