AUSSIE: Australia's inflation genie remains trapped in its bottle, a factor that
supports no change in interest rates, says Craig James, chief economist at
Commsec. The Reserve Bank of Australia is achieving the near unthinkable with
employment posting solid growth, home building still lifting, infrastructure
projects continuing to build but with inflation well contained, he says. Despite
much bleating about the likely impact of higher electricity prices on 3Q CPI,
falling food prices didn't get the same focus, he adds. The data show the
biggest annual slide in food prices in five years.
