OIL

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has said that Baku and Astana continue talks to increase Kazakh oil exports via Azerbaijan.

  • "There are plans and talks continue to increase the Kazakh oil supplies via Azerbaijan [there is an agreement to export 1.5 million tonnes of Kazakh oil in 2023]. Our pipeline infrastructure enables such supplies," he said.
  • Referring to the increase of the Kazakh oil supplies via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, the president said that there could be a problem with the quality of the end product, as Kazakh oil differs from Azeri Light.
  • “We are currently a transit country for oil coming from Russia, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. If the volume of oil grows, we will be only glad.” he added.
  • Part of the oil “Russia produces in the Caspian Sea is being shipped through Azerbaijan to Ceyhan” in Turkey, Aliyev said. “It’s about 2.5m tons a year”.
